It may be hot but the Penguicon penguins do not let that stop us from working on our 2018 Event. Here is a summary of what we have been doing along with several opportunities to get involved.

The June ConCom Meeting/SMoS Party at Jessica and Rich’s was well attended by a mix of familiar and new faces. Take a look at what was discussed during the ConCom portion of the meeting.

Motor City Steam Con has hosted the incredible Corset and Bloomer party for the last two years at Penguicon and now Penguicon is going to load up the airship and throw an epic party at Motor City Steam Con, Saturday, July 15. Details are on the Facebook event. REMINDER: You must have a MCSC badge to enter the party.

Everyone with any interest in Penguicon is invited to both the July ConCom Meeting and SMoS Party which will be held this Sunday, July 16 in Detroit and hosted by Dana, Matt, and Nuri. Their address is 17607 Wildemere St, Detroit, Michigan 48221. The ConCom Meeting will be from 1-3. A Google Hangout link will be posted just prior to the meeting starting and additional details can be found on the Facebook event. If you have something you would like to see addressed you can email the Chair, Cassy, at [email protected] or bring it up during the meeting.

Speaking of our events, we are always looking for hosts for ConCom meetings and other less structured events like a board game night or other event that would be of interest to the Penguicon community throughout the Penguicon has a budget for refreshments and a tote full of serving dishes and table ware for official events – you provide the space. If you are interested in hosting a ConCom/SMoS party or have ideas for other geek-oriented events, please email me (Miranda) at [email protected].

Check out our Penguicon Official calendar which shows the dates of all official Penguicon events. All ComCom/SMoS dates through May 2018 are on the calendar. Locations are listed as they are confirmed. Video Hangout links or other remote connection information will be added just prior to the meeting.

Finally, we are looking for suggestions for a worthy Charity of Honor in 2018. Past charities have included All Hands Active, a maker space in Ann Arbor, and Enabling the Future, which uses open source technology and 3D printing to create prosthetic limbs. See our Suggest a Charity page for additional information and a form to nominate a worthy charity.

Hope to see many of you on Sunday!
